Southern Academy Trust Safeguarding and Child Protection Statement

/  Southern Academy Trust Safeguarding and Child Protection Statement

Introduction

Southern Academy Trust recognises that the welfare of the child is paramount and the needs and wishes of each child will be put first. Across all schools, offices and sites, we take seriously our duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of the children and young people in our care. The Executive Headteacher of Southern Academy Trust takes overall leadership responsibility for safeguarding arrangements in each of the schools within the Trust.

Each of the schools within Southern Academy Trust has a Designated Safeguarding Lead and Deputy Safeguarding Lead. During term time and during the school day, one or both are contactable regarding safeguarding concerns. Each school will complete the local authority audit each year and submit a report to the governing body and will liaise with local agencies to safeguard children in their schools. Shaftesbury School includes the boarding programme based at Barton Hill House.

All staff are encouraged to maintain a view that “it could happen here” and receive training in accordance with appropriate guidance.

Each school within Southern Academy Trust have their own safeguarding and child protection policy in accordance with statutory guidance. This will reflect the current statutory guidance in Keeping Children Safe in Education (2018) including Part 1, and Working Together to Safeguard Children.[1]  Individual policies  are available on each school’s website and will list the names of the DSLs and DDSLs at each site.
